Choosing a lane
Choosing a lane

Traffic lanes are often referred to by number. The left (or fast) lane is called the Number 1 Lane. The lane to the right of the Number 1 Lane is called the Number 2 Lane. Then the Number 3 Lane, etc.

When driving on a highway, it's important to choose the right lane to ensure a safe and smooth trip. Here are some tips for choosing a lane on the highway:

1. Consider your speed: If you're driving slower than the average speed of traffic, stay in the right lane. If you're driving at or above the speed limit, you can move to the left lane(s) to pass slower vehicles.

2. Watch for signs: Pay attention to signs indicating upcoming exits or lane closures. Move to the appropriate lane well before the exit or closure to avoid sudden lane changes.

3. Check your blind spots: Before changing lanes, make sure to check your blind spots by using your mirrors and turning your head to look over your shoulder.

4. Avoid weaving: Avoid weaving in and out of lanes unnecessarily, as it can be dangerous and disrupt the flow of traffic.

5. Be aware of other drivers: Keep an eye on other drivers and anticipate their movements. If you see a driver approaching from behind at a high speed, move over to the right lane to let them pass.

6. Leave space: Leave plenty of space between you and the vehicle in front of you, especially if you're in the left lane. This will give you more time to react if something unexpected happens.

Remember to always drive defensively and stay alert while on the highway.
